*** PLEASE NOTE that this event will be held on Mon 25th January. It was originally scheduled for Weds 9th December ***

Pathfinder Project: UCL/ Newcastle/ Nottingham (Pathways to OA)

What: REF Exceptions/ Subject Repositories workshop

Where: etc.venues, Farringdon

When: Monday 25th January 2016 from 10:30 to 16:00

This Pathfinder workshop will be looking at dealing with exceptions to the REF open access policy, and compliance through subject repositories.

The aim of this workshop is:

1) to explore the exceptions to the OA policy for the next REF. Before the workshop, we will gather evidence of REF exceptions from the community, and the workshop will help with developing suggestions for best practice in applying them. A toolkit on applying exceptions to the REF policy will be produced in February 2016.

2) to explore how (and whether) institutions can comply with the REF OA policy using subject repositories. Deposit in subject repositories is permitted under the REF OA policy, but institutions are unsure which subject repositories comply with the REF criteria, and how subject repositories could be used to monitor compliance.

Confirmed speakers are:

Ben Johnson – on HEFCE’s guidance on exceptions
Tom Parsons and Azhar Hussain – on Sherpa REF
Amy Robinson from the University for the Creative Arts – on exceptions and third-party copyright
Cecy Marden from the Wellcome Trust – on reporting from PubMed Central
Lucie Burgess from Oxford University – on arXiv
